Thread limit

Is there a limit of how long threads can be or when a very popular thread can be archived so another version can be put foward. Some of the best threads e.g. Azrael aka Jerichos motivational poster thread has been gathering dust for a while. Another version could be made and the current one could be archived so we have no repeat posters.
