I decided to come up with this short story.

As the rain began hammering down in something resembling a waterfall, 'la Kashva looked up at the sky and realised the trek up the ridge would be even more dangerous than it already had been. They'd taken half an hour to climb only 150 feet. Still, with the rain coming down, they'd be less likely to be spotted.
Kashva kept his pace up as much as he could, keeping his balance as much as possible. After some time, he couldn't really tell how far he'd climbed, but at last he was ordered to halt; the Shas'ui had finally found an appropriate spot to carry out the mission.
Kashva and the other 5 members of his Pathfinder squad set themselves up on the ridge, looking down at the vast horde below them. After a steep hill, all he could see for several kilometres was a green tide of Orks, all marching towards the Tau lines. Two members of the squad set themselves up covering the rear, while the others lay on their bellies on the ridge, carefully observing the mass below them, scanning them for their target. As the rain poured down even harder, Kashva switched his scope to night vision, so as to better observe his quarry.
After a few minutes of searching, he found his target: a huge Ork warrior, towering above his inferiors, and screaming orders in every direction. Yes, that matched the description of the Warboss nicely. A few well-placed rounds on him would slow the Ork advance and give the Tau line more time to get organised. Now came the time to complete his objective.
Kashva switched on his markerlight and carefully aimed it at the Warboss. His heart was pounding. If he missed the target, he wouldn't get another chance. He pulled the trigger on the markerlight. A sharp *beep* told him that it had a lock-on. He looked back down his scope and breathed a sigh of relief - He had locked on to the warboss after all.
A sharp voice crackled over the shas'ui's intercom which confirmed what Kashva hoped. "Target acquired; Stand-by for impact".
The Skyray gunships had recieved the lock-on. All they had to do now was watch.
Just as expected, a hail of rockets hit the boss' position, sending him and many other orks besides flying. Kashva looked back down his scope and noticed with anguish, as the smoke cleared, that the warboss was still alive, albeit in at least four pieces. Worse, the Boyz weren't running, they seemed to be congregating towards one spot - Kashva moved his sight towards that spot and saw a monstrous Ork creature - arms crackling with lightning, a look of pure rage in its eyes. He had heard from the Shas'ui veterans descriptions of such beasts before - this was what the Orks called a 'weirdboy'. Kashva realised with sudden horror, that the creature was looking directly at his squad. They'd been compromised.
He looked back to the other 3 members of the squad stationed on the ridge and saw that they had all noticed the same thing. The Shas'ui shouted the order to fire flares at the large Ork group. Kashva followed suit to the others, as he loaded a flare into the barrel of his Carbine. yhe blindly aimed it at the weirdboy and let it off. The others did so at the same time, as he saw four bright red lights streaking towards the Orks. That would at least buy them some time. The Skyray commander came over the intercom again: "Target sighted; firing for effect"
Firing blind wasn't as accurate as with the markerlight, but would hold them up for enough time nonetheless.
A second group of rockets slammed into the ground where the flares had hit, sending Orks spinning off in all directions. The weirdboy, however was unaffected, and continued directing his entourage towards Kashva's squad. The Pathfinder with the railrifle set his weapon up and began firing everything he could at the weirdboy, desperately trying to break his concentration, but to no avail; the power field surrounding it was too strong.

The rain began to abate and the squad realised that the Orks were actually far closer than they had thought - a group of Nobz had found their way to within 100 metres of Kashva's position while they had been preoccupied with the flares. The squad immediately redirected their fire to counter the new threat. Kashva fired his pulse carbine as accurately as he could, despite the wave of panic slowly overcoming him. The Nobz had been totally consumed by their own anger and were firing off whole clips from their big sluggas at the six badly outnumbered Tau. Despite their inaccuracy, two lucky shots hit something - one ploughing into the neck of one of the pathfinders, leaving him lying on the ground, dark blue blood spurting from the wound, the other hitting the firing mechanism on the rail rifle and forcing the operator to use the carbine left by his dead comrade. 50 feet, 40 feet, the Nobz continued up the slope without any hesitation.
Remembering his photon grenades, Kashva turned to drastic measures and pulled the pin on one of them, holding it for a second, then lobbing it with all his strength at the monsters approaching him.The grenade hit the ground just in front of the first Nob, but Kashva's heat sank as he watched it roll down the hill, detonating just in front of the last few. It blinded them, but the ones at the front were seemingly spurred on by the deafening noise the grenade let off, and as it seemed charged towards the five pathfinders with more ferocity and speed than before.
Kashva hesitated as he watched the front Nob making towards him, now less than 30 feet away. He raised his carbine and barely let off a single pulse of plasma before the Nobz were upon them, the lead beast ripping Kashva's head from his shoulders with a single stroke of his choppa, the others carving the pathfinders into gruesome bloody chunks.

Shas'O Qars'ja watched in shock over his scopes as he saw his elite pathfinders hacked apart by the green brutes. His heart dropped as he heard the largest of them let out a deafening scream of victory - the Pathfinders hadn't stood a chance against such brutality. His gaze was drawn from the Nobz to the reforming horde of Orks now surging towards Qars'ja and his line of Skyrays. After what had happened to his pathfinders, the young Shas'O seriously doubted the approaching fight would be easy. He climbed back inside his Skyray and gave the order to fire at will. He allowed a small grin to come show across his face. Bring it on.
